What do I do if my Puppy is Growling?

Growling is an important part of every dogs behavior. If you teach your Bashful facialpuppy to stop growling, your Australian Labradoodle puppy will have no
other way to communicate. This leads to dogs who bite without any warning. Puppies are trying to communicate with you, look at what is going on.

Growling is a puppy’s way of saying he is annoyed.

Australian Labradoodle puppies are not being aggressive when they are growling. Some reasons why are they are trying to get you to play with them or they are saying I am having so much fun! It is similar to a child play screaming when they are running around playing with other kids.

Please, play with me!

If you have young children and they are picking them up, they need to learn the puppy does not like that. He is telling your child he does not want to be picked up.

Ashford Manor Labradoodle Douglas 2014If you approach your puppy suddenly while he is sleeping and move him off the couch, he may growl at you because he is surprised and alarmed. This does not mean it is acceptable behavior, a puppy needs you to teach them what is acceptable.

You train your puppy what is acceptable in your home.

If your 3 year old takes a toy away from your puppy, he will probably growl. This is a learning opportunity for both you, your puppy, and your child. Teach your child to say “drop it” and teach the puppy this command. Also, never play tug-of-war with a puppy, this will teach bad behaviors.

Teach “Drop It”

Puppies memories are very short. There are various things you can do to train your puppy. You can change what your puppy was doing and take him out for a walk or you can give him a high value treat (hot dogs always work) in exchange for the toy. We recommend working with your Australian Labradoodle from the time they go into your home. This is important as they are very smart.
